VISITOR INFORMATION

The Day's Events
The 4th New Milton Pedal Car Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 10th July 2011. There will be events and entertainment for everyone throughout the day with the grand prix during the afternoon. From early morning through to 5pm there will be activities on the recreation ground with entertainment for all and pedal cars on display in the ' parc ferme'.

The race schedule begins at 11am through to 4pm beginning with an hour long junior race and finishing with the two hour senior race with a 2pm start time.

The race can be viewed from anywhere around the 1km track which takes in most of Station Road and part of Old Milton Road, from the traffic lights to the Elm Avenue car park entrance. Perhaps the best views can be obtained from the traffic lights area for the start/finish, The tight turns at the north and south ends of station road always provide plenty of action with drivers crashing out as they try to take the hairpins too fast and the pit action can be observed from the east side of north Station Road, looking across the track.

The winning teams will be presented with their trophies immediately after the race, at the finishing line by the traffic lights. Don't stand too close though if you don't appreciate being soaked in champagne!

Parking
Plenty of parking will be available for visitors but expect the town to be very busy, so please drive carefully. All the town's car parks will be available but don't forget that normal car park charges will apply. If you choose to use street parking please show consideration for local residents. Alternative overflow parking will also be provided for the event. The town centre will be closed to traffic from 10am to 5pm and motorists are advised to observe the temporary road signs and divert in a clockwise direction around the town centre.

What is a Pedal Car?
Well, it's a car built to a set of rather loose
specifications and driven by human pedal power. The more simple ones, like the super machine shown here are built from old bicycle bits welded together. And then there are the specialist cars, normally built by engineering firms who have the tooling to do the job. But at the end of the day, no car can do without horsepower, or should it be personpower, to provide the grunt to make it go. That's what makes it so entertaining, as teams have to really work hard together to get a result.
