VISITOR INFORMATION

The Day's Events
The New Milton Pedal Car Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 15th July 2007 as an integral part of the New Milton Town Show. There will be events and entertainment for everyone throughout the day with the grand prix during the afternoon. From early morning through to 5pm there will be a fair on the recreation ground with market stalls, children rides, entertainment shows, a beer tent and pedal cars on display in the ' parc ferme' from 10am.

The race schedule is expected to begin at 11am with the hour long junior race. Then at 2pm the senior race gets under way for a full two hours of leg sapping pedalling.

The race can be viewed from anywhere around the 1km track which takes in most of Station Road and part of Old Milton Road, from the traffic lights to the Elm Avenue car park entrance. Perhaps the best views can be obtained from the traffic lights area for the start/finish, The Gone Biking Mad Hairpin at the bottom of Station Road for views of action both here and in the Rydal Chicane and the east side of Station Road north of the traffic lights for pit action and the very fast main straight.

The winning teams will receive their trophies immediately after the race. Don't stand too close though if you don't appreciate a few drops of champagne!

Parking
Plenty of parking will be available for visitors but expect the town to be very busy, so please drive carefully. All the town's car parks will be available except the Elm Avenue car park which is reserved for competitors and show vehicles. Don't forget that normal car park charges will apply. Additional free show parking will be available at Arnewood School in Gore Road, only a short walk from the town centre and further parking will be available with 'park and ride' at Fawcetts Field on Christchurch Road. If you choose to use street parking please show consideration for local residents. The town centre will be closed to traffic from 10am to 5pm and motorists are advised to observe the temporary road signs and divert in a clockwise direction around the town centre.

What is a Pedal Car?
Well, it's a car built to a set of rather loose
specifications and driven by human pedal power. The more simple ones, like the super machine shown here are built from old bicycle bits welded together. And then there are the specialist cars, normally built by engineering firms who have the tooling to do the job. But at the end of the day, no car can do without horsepower, or should it be personpower, to provide the grunt to make it go. That's what makes it so entertaining, as teams have to really work hard together to get a result.
